When to See a Neurologist?

A neurologist has specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system. Neurologists may recommend surgery but they do not perform surgery.

Your primary care physician will refer you to a neurologist for a neurological consultation and examination to diagnose and treat neurological disorders or conditions including:

  • Headache/migraine
  • Neuropathy
  • Stroke/TIA
  • Seizures and Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders
  • Memory disorders and dementia
  • Balance and gait problems
  • Neck and back pain
  • Dizziness and vertigo
  • Numbness and sensory loss
  • Multiple Sclerosis
